Salvatore Sollo Interview
Salvatore Sollo, Founder & General Manager of GreenGasPower, is a multidisciplinary energy and industrial management professional specializing in project management, site management, plant operations and engineering support. His experience spans photovoltaic systems, biogas and biomethane plants, LNG, upgrading, cogeneration, electrical systems and industrial maintenance. Through GreenGasPower, Salvatore Sollo supports companies and engineering firms across the project lifecycle-from technical coordination and construction management to commissioning, O&M, process optimization and operational efficiency.
Professional Journey
We started the interview by asking, “Salvatore, could you tell us about your professional journey and what led you to establish GreenGasPower?”
Salvatore Sollo replied, “My professional journey started with an electrical and electromechanical background, which gave me a strong foundation in industrial electrical systems, automation and energy production. Over the years, I had the opportunity to work directly in the field, dealing with complex industrial plants, maintenance, troubleshooting and technical operations.
My experience then expanded into renewable energy, biogas, biomethane, LNG and plant management. Working across both technical and operational areas helped me understand how important coordination is between engineering, construction, maintenance and management. I established GreenGasPower to bring these experiences together into an integrated service. The goal is to support companies and engineering firms with practical technical management, site supervision, project coordination and operational optimization throughout the lifecycle of an industrial or renewable energy project.”
GreenGasPower’s Services
The Europe Time: What is GreenGasPower, and what services does the company provide?
Salvatore Sollo replied, “GreenGasPower provides integrated Project Management, Site Management, technical consulting and engineering support for industrial and renewable energy projects. Our work can cover different stages of a project, including construction coordination, technical supervision, commissioning support, plant management, maintenance and operational optimization.
We focus particularly on renewable energy and complex industrial systems such as photovoltaic plants, biogas and biomethane facilities, upgrading systems, LNG-related operations, cogeneration and trigeneration plants. The objective is to give clients a technical partner who understands both the engineering requirements and the realities of managing activities directly in the field.”
Energy Specializations
The Europe Time: What areas of renewable energy and industrial energy management do you specialize in?
Salvatore Sollo replied, “My main areas of specialization include biomethane, LNG, upgrading technologies, photovoltaic energy, cogeneration, trigeneration, electrical systems and industrial plant management.
I also work with medium-voltage cabins, automation systems, F-GAS compliance, maintenance planning and construction management. A major part of my work is connecting technical knowledge with operational requirements. An energy plant needs to be correctly designed and constructed, but it also needs to operate efficiently and consistently once it is running.”
Effective Site Management
The Europe Time: How important is effective Site Management when developing renewable energy projects?
Salvatore Sollo replied, “Site Management is fundamental because many problems that affect a project become visible during construction and installation.
Effective site management requires continuous coordination between contractors, technicians, engineers, suppliers and management. It means monitoring progress, identifying technical issues quickly, controlling quality and helping ensure that activities remain aligned with the planned schedule and budget. In renewable energy projects, good field coordination can also make a significant difference during commissioning and the transition from construction to operation.”
Biogas Plant Challenges
The Europe Time: What challenges do companies commonly face when managing biogas and biomethane plants?
Salvatore Sollo replied, “Biogas and biomethane plants are complex because they combine biological processes with mechanical, electrical and energy systems. The performance of the plant depends on maintaining the right operating conditions, monitoring equipment, managing maintenance and responding quickly when technical or process-related problems arise. For biomethane projects, upgrading is another important area because the gas needs to be treated appropriately for its intended use. Operational monitoring, maintenance and process optimization therefore have a direct relationship with plant efficiency and availability.”
Data-Driven Performance
The Europe Time: What role does data analysis play in improving the performance of energy plants?
Salvatore Sollo replied, “Data is essential for understanding what is really happening inside a plant.
By analyzing operational data, production figures, alarms, maintenance records and performance trends, it is possible to identify recurring problems and areas where efficiency can be improved. I believe reporting should not simply produce numbers. The information needs to help management make decisions. My approach is to use technical data to identify problems, prioritize interventions and support practical actions that can improve plant performance and reduce unnecessary downtime.”
Maintenance and Reliability
The Europe Time: How do you approach maintenance and O&M for industrial and renewable energy plants?
Salvatore Sollo replied, “Maintenance should be planned with the objective of protecting plant availability and reducing unexpected downtime. This involves coordinating both ordinary and extraordinary maintenance, monitoring equipment performance and identifying potential issues before they become major failures whenever possible. I also believe maintenance strategies should be adapted to the specific plant. A photovoltaic installation, a cogeneration plant and a biomethane upgrading system have very different operating characteristics and maintenance requirements. The objective is always to maintain reliability while controlling costs and keeping the plant operating as close as possible to its potential.”
Solar Project Management
The Europe Time: What is your approach to photovoltaic and utility-scale solar projects?
Salvatore Sollo replied, “In photovoltaic projects, I focus on technical support, site management, construction supervision and operational aspects. This can include coordination during installation, support with medium-voltage connection systems, monitoring construction progress and addressing technical issues that arise on site.
For existing plants, revamping and repowering can also be important opportunities to improve performance. These activities need to be evaluated carefully according to the condition of the existing system, the available technology and the expected energy return.”
Budget and Team Management
The Europe Time: How do budget and team management influence the success of an industrial project?
Salvatore Sollo replied, “Technical performance and financial management are closely connected. A project can have excellent engineering, but if resources, timelines and responsibilities are not properly coordinated, the final result can be affected.
I therefore consider budget monitoring, team coordination and progress reporting important parts of technical management. Everyone involved should understand the priorities, deadlines and responsibilities so that decisions can be made efficiently when circumstances change.”
Safety and HSE Compliance
The Europe Time: What does HSE compliance mean to you when managing industrial and renewable energy projects?
Salvatore Sollo replied, “Safety has to be integrated into the way a project is organized from the beginning. Industrial and energy construction sites involve electrical systems, mechanical equipment, working at height, pressure systems and other potential risks. Proper procedures, coordination and compliance with applicable requirements are therefore essential.
For me, HSE is not an additional activity separate from project management. It is part of responsible site and plant management.”
LNG and Biomethane Technologies
The Europe Time: You have experience with LNG, biomethane and upgrading. How do these technologies fit into the changing energy landscape?
Salvatore Sollo replied, “Biomethane and LNG-related systems are interesting because they involve the production, treatment, management and utilization of gases within increasingly complex energy systems. Biomethane can play a role in making better use of organic resources, while upgrading technologies allow biogas to be treated for applications requiring higher-quality gas. From an operational perspective, the challenge is ensuring that these systems work reliably and efficiently. This requires a combination of process knowledge, maintenance, automation, safety and strong field management.”
A Practical Management Approach
Lastly we asked, “What differentiates your approach to technical consulting and project management?”
“I come from a practical technical background, so I place strong importance on what happens on the ground.
My approach combines electrical and industrial knowledge with experience in plant operation, construction management and renewable energy. When supporting an engineering firm or company, I want to understand the actual situation of the project, identify what is slowing progress or affecting performance, and help coordinate the resources needed to solve it. The focus is always on practical results, technical compliance, efficiency and continuity of operations.” Salvatore Sollo concluded
